Portland Sights and Sweets

I'm baaaack lovelies! {my move to California is now just 2 days away, eek!!!} A few weeks ago, I ventured off to Maine for a day trip with my family. Getting in the car and setting off on a 2 hour road trip to a city I've never been to before was in a word, amazing. I need to do this more often! When I returned home, I was definitely in a massive food coma, but my heart was happy.

Hello, Portland! {Maine}. A charming little city on the water with quaint streets and dozens of boutiques.

Afternoon treats at Gorgeous Gelato.
My sisters and I on Peaks Island, a cozy place that was a quick ferry trip from Portland.

Looking out towards Portland from Peak's Island. I love how serene it looks!

Dinner and drinks at Sebago Brewing Company.

This cupcake shop had a cute storefront, but underwhelming desserts :(

Tips for a fun Portland getaway:
  • Portland is a foodie's paradise! Read reviews on Yelp for the top restaurants.
  • Fore Street has lots of fun window shopping opportunities and places to eat.
  • Sip on martinis at Grace, a gorgeous restaurant that's inside of a renovated church.
  • Try the weirdest flavors of popcorn you've ever had - Dill Pickle popcorn anyone?!! at Coastal Maine Popcorn Co. We got bags to go and enjoyed them with a movie when we got home.
  • Take the short, inexpensive ferry ride over to Peaks Island and rent bikes. If you get there early enough, snag a cinnamon roll at Peak's Cafe.

{p.s. - if you're not reading this in an RSS reader, you'll notice I changed up the design a little bit. a new header is coming soon!}

I can't wait for you to get here! We just signed our new lease this afternoon, and I'm feeling so positive and happy about the changes happening in our life right now. I think this new apartment is making me super excited! Are you all packed and ready to go? Let me know if you need help moving and whatnot once you get here. Kim, xo

I need to take a day trip up to Portland. It looks like a lovely place to spend the day (or weekend).

Can't believe you're moving this week :( Good luck with everything! We'll just have to keep connected via email. I look forward to reading about your adventures on the opposite coast :)

Soooo gorgeous. I love anything/anywhere on the water!!! I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but Jen and I hope to someday live aboard a sailboat, so we're also always on the lookout for liveaboard marinas and well, we just LOVE the water.

Everything there seems so peaceful and charming and cute and eeee!

my heart skipped a beat, I was like you were here!!! I want to see what you did!!!! haha, only to find out you're in the ME version :) I have always wanted to go to Maine, my Uncle lives there and I've seen so much of Portland, ME in googling here and seeing those results instead... looks so cute. I'm glad you had good and I love food coma towns!! PS Portland, OR is named as such after 2 of the early settlers were from the East- one from Portland, Maine and one from Boston. They each wanted to name Portland, OR after their respective hometowns and it was decided after a coin toss. There's an interesting factoid I'm sure you didn't care about :)
